I saw the red light blinking on my phone. I checked for a message, but there was none. So I decided to call the last number that came through. “Lawyer” picked up the phone. Not a lawyer in the sense of an attorney, but a man named Lawyer! He said he wanted to tell me something.
He used to be a cook at a Thai restaurant in Columbus, MS. I checked my notes, and I was last there seven years ago! He let me know that he had become born again! Praise ye the Lord!! He had read the book Reunion that I wrote and wanted to give me a call.
Lawyer recalled the day when I was at the restaurant and mentioned how I had sent back to the cooks and the other people in the back $30 tips and some books, including the Reunion book I gave to him. I love to bless the people in the kitchen. They work hard and typically only hear feedback when something is wrong, like when the food isn’t cooked correctly. But why not encourage them for the work that they do all the time?
There is one Chinese restaurant I go to, and the whole kitchen staff is Hispanic! I always laugh about that one. I have given them my books, and every time I am in there, I give them a Spanish tract and a blessing. They are always grateful and thank me through the window. All of us who are Christians should be different than every other person who walks into a restaurant.
Lawyer read the book, did some more reading, went to a church, and got saved. He is 55―right on time before checking out of here. He just wanted to call and give thanks for me having taken the time to plant that seed in his life seven years ago.
1 Corinthians 3:6-11
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Lawyer made my day! It was so good to hear from him. Just a reminder that our labor is not in vain. Remember that every “lawyer” you will ever meet needs the Lord. Give Him to them!
Until the nets are full,
