I was talking with a pastor today, and he told me the most interesting story. He said that a man stopped by to give him an estimate for trimming trees around the church property. The gentleman came inside and handed him an estimate for $800. But at the bottom of the estimate, it read, Donation. The pastor asked the man what that was about.
The man said, Sir, I have worked on the trees of many of your congregants. Every single one of them has paid their bill on time, and every one of them has either talked to me about Jesus or given me one of the booklets that your church hands out. I just wanted to bless you with the tree trimming because of how well your people have treated me.
How about wow a thousand times over!! That is crazy. As the pastor talked with him, he realized this man was not saved. They had a great one-hour conversation, and the man said he was going to be coming to church there.
Pastor Travis said, It is much more important for you to come to Jesus than making attending church your goal. Also, when you get saved, you will enjoy church a whole lot more!
Acts 9:26
And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
All of us have a reputation, whether that reputation is good or bad. Saul’s reputation early in the book of Acts wasn’t so hot. But it sure became hot as his life continued! Don’t forget, your reputation can change over the course of your life.
The people at that Independent Baptist Church sure have a reputation! So powerful.
Don’t forget that we are here for two reasons: To make him well known and to make him look good!!

P.S. Witnessing and compassion for the lost become very easy when you remember that Judgment Day is coming for them. It makes anything going on in your life pale by comparison. It’s very real trouble they need to be saved from.
