I have used the title “What a Day” more than once for our newsletters. Now, I am not the most creative person, and I can come up with different titles for things, but sometimes, a title just fits a little too perfectly not to use it again. You just know it is the right one even if you have used it before.
On this particular day, I got a call in the morning from Mason. I met him on Thanksgiving. Sometimes on Christmas or Thanksgiving, I just drive around and find people who are by themselves. If someone is alone on one of those holidays, there is a reason for it.
Mason was washing clothes. He saw me talking with a pack of teenagers and came outside to listen. We continued the conversation inside later. It was cold out. He is in his 30s, married, and has an autistic child. He told me on the phone that he talked with his mother later that day. She reminded him that God is trying to bring him back to his Christian roots. Please say a prayer for him.
I was heading over to another side of town that can have a lot of traffic, but I decided to hit the post office first. As I came out, a guy got out of his work truck. I extended my arm to hand him a tract, and he got a big smile on his face. I said, “Have we met before?” Well, I had actually witnessed to Chris like 12 or 13 years ago! He let me know that he was saved and serving God. We had a really neat time encouraging one another. I was able to give some materials to his coworker, Keith, and bless him, too.
I made it over to the other side of town early enough that I hit up a coffee shop. There were two guys wearing Buffalo Bills merchandise. They looked a little out of place! So I went over to chat with them. “Are you from Buffalo?” They were. When I told them that I grew up right down the road in Rochester, we were off and running. They ended up being brothers, and one of them was having a birthday that day. As we moved to the spiritual side of the conversation, it turned out that they were both saved! It was really exciting. They grew up Catholic, like I did, and were saved later in life. There is nothing like hearing someone with a New York accent talking about Jesus and being saved. And you might know the reason why that is rare. You hear that accent talking about politics and throwing out curse words but not usually talking about commitment to the Lord.
When I finally made it to dinner with someone later that day, Brandan was our waiter. He was very easy to talk with. One opener I use is, “Tell me something interesting about yourself.” He told me that he was once driving a box truck, or straight truck, along some winding, mountain Georgia road. He came around a curve, overcorrected, and flipped the truck on its side! Thankfully, he didn’t drive it off the mountain! He scraped himself up a bit, and his buddy was hanging from his seatbelt in the cab. Let’s just say he lost that job when he was 20!!
Brandan also told me he liked music. So, I asked him who his favorite artist was. He looked at me and said, “Alive or dead?” What a question. I told him to give me one of each. The dead musician was Michael Jackson. Now, that was easy. “Since Michael is dead and on the other side, what do you think happens when you die, Brandan?” We were off and running! He grew up Christian but was just “spiritual” now. He thinks there is something out there, but he’s not sure what it is. Great seed plant. Got to lay out the whole gospel for him. He took some materials to read. Please say a prayer for him.
If you think about it, we should get to the end of each day and say, “What a day!” It really is the only way to live.
We titled this newsletter with #2010, which is the second-to-last use of the word “day” in the Bible. It is from Revelation 20:10.
Revelation 20:10
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
That day will not be a good day for anyone who ends up in that lake of fire. We want good days here, and we want folks to have good days on the other side for all of eternity.
Finish up the year strong. Have a bunch of “what-a-day” finishes to your days through the end of the year, and remember to have a year full of them in 2025!
Until the nets are full,
P.S. One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven was the book that started it all. When I was writing it, I thought it would be a “one-and-done” when it came to being an author. Little did I know there were a few more books coming after it!
We have heard from so many people through the years who have read One Thing. Many have said they read it, put it down, and started sharing their faith right away. And many of them said they have never stopped! In it, we help you break through the fear of rejection, give you some good starter questions to open up an eternal conversation, and help you with answers to some of the questions you will get. It also has a free study guide with it, so you and your group can go through the book.
You folks who know me, know that my books are always full of interesting encounters with people I have been able to witness to. This book has an interesting encounter with an atheist and a pretty wild encounter with a Satanist!
I hope you enjoy this book and all of our books. Many thanks for giving away our books to so many people through the years!
So, let’s knock down the suggested donation for all of our books by 50% so you can get a copy to read for yourself or pick up books to give them away to others.

P.P.S. This audio message by Mark recounts many stories involving demons and angels from both the Bible and from real-life witnessing encounters. Have you ever wondered if those stories are true? There is so much more to this world than meets your eyes.
