While walking back to my car after exercising, I noticed a couple coming down the sidewalk. I enjoy talking to interesting looking people, and this guy coming toward me was tattooed up and had some piercings. So, I stretched my calves while I waited for them to get closer. I reached out toward the man with a gospel tract and asked, “Did you get one of these?”
He said, “Is it one of those prayer cards?” Interesting response.
I stated, “Yes, it is about Jesus.”
He let me know with a little bit of attitude that he didn’t want one.
I then asked, “Why do you hate Jesus so much?” I throw that question out every now and then. It typically sparks an interesting reaction. He replied by saying, “I don’t hate Jesus; I just dislike the people who try to push religion on others.”
I said, “Well, I just want to see you in Heaven one day.”
He came back with, “You people just can’t handle yourselves, so that is why you have to go out and force religion on other people.”
My response to him was, “Trust me, I can handle you.”
I knew when I said that, I would get another response out of him. The pride of man just can’t let something like that slide. They have to come back and let you know that, for the most part, it’s you who cannot handle someone like them. What he didn’t know was that I have met a ton of people like him.
He and his lady friend never broke their stride. They just kept on moving. As they were walking away, he turned back to look at me. He stared at me for a couple of steps and said, “I hope you have a nice day.” I responded in like manner back to him.
Romans 10:13-15
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
God says you have beautiful feet as you carry the gospel forth. Trust His assessment of you every day of the week, and don’t worry what the wild, tattooed-up crowd thinks.
Until the Nets are Full,
P.S. Also, for you men out there, and ladies as well, that half-hoop nose ring is not a good look. When God takes the time to make you handsome, don’t mess it up like that.
