Stencils In the Sand

On the 70th anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy, The Fallen 9000 project took place on the same beaches where the Allied forces came ashore.

A friend wrote in about this commemoration of history and included the images you’ll see below:

Hi Mark,

“God bless our boys! Incredible story. Nine thousand boys never got to grow up, have families, see our country be victorious, or live through the Normandy Beach invasion. And there were so many more fallen who held other roles. A large percentage of our country doesn’t know or care about Normandy.”

“British artists Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss accompanied by numerous volunteers took to the beaches of Normandy with rakes and stencils in hand to etch 9,000 silhouettes representing fallen people into the sand.

“Titled The Fallen 9000, the piece is meant as a stark visual reminder of the civilians, Germans, and Allied forces who died during the D-Day beach landings at Arromanches on June 6th, 1944 during WWII. The original team consisted of 60 volunteers, but as word spread, nearly 500 additional local residents arrived to help with the temporary installation that lasted only a few hours before being washed away by the tide.”

What is surprising is that nothing about this event was publicized here in the U.S. Someone from overseas had a friend that sent it with a note of gratitude for what the U.S. started there.

Please share this with others who understand that “freedom is not free” ― nor has it ever been.

_______

Souls matter to God. Anyone of us can check out of here in an instant of time. They can be souls who are old in an earthly sense or young in an earthly sense. But one thing is certain: we are all heading off into eternity. And it might happen much quicker than we think. Defending your country. Doing right. Doing wrong. Doing something good. Doing something sinful. Last breaths occur.

James 4:14

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

You will never be a stencil in the sand. You are a living, eternal soul. All those who are living around you are eternal souls, too. What are you going to say to them before they take their last breath?

Until the nets are full,
