I saw this statement on an X post today:
“Remember that time Jesus told us all to form denominations, divide ourselves based upon our own interpretation of scripture, and argue about theology with anyone who disagrees with us?”
That would beg a much larger question: Does doctrine matter to God? Do the truths of God’s Word matter in the day that we are living in?
Where would we go for an answer to this question?
Titus 1:9
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
We need to have sound doctrine so that we can proclaim truth and convince others who are in error of that truth.
1 Timothy 4:16
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
Each one of us needs to have personal vigilance when it comes to sound doctrine. This is not a game; it is serious business.
2 Timothy 4:2,3
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine…
Preach the truth even though we live in a world full of lies.
Ephesians 4:14
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness…
Newer believers can be easily pulled into false doctrines because they don’t know their Bibles well enough yet to discern truth from error.
Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Truth has been delivered once, so we need to fight to preserve it.
Yes, boldly stand for sound doctrine. And, if we see anyone walking on the path of wrong doctrine, we need to lovingly show them how to get on the right path of truth. That is the correct thing for a Christian to do.
