We received this email from a lady in Oklahoma the other day. I thought you would enjoy reading the encounter she had as much as I did. I just love it when people use their lives and their businesses to be about the Lord’s work!
Mark,
I’ve almost given away all the cases of books I ordered from you a few months back. I still have booklets to give out for now. What a joy it has been! I wanted to share this story with you and ask you to pray for a man from Texas named Robert.
Eight months ago, I delivered a puppy to him. He’s a big, burly, tenderhearted man. We met at the sale barn where my husband works. He (we) cried when he saw his new puppy like he (we) cried the first time we had talked on the phone. On that call, he explained how his 14-year-old lab had passed away a year ago and that he and his wife were just now ready to get another one.
At the barn, I bought his breakfast in hopes of having the opportunity to witness to him. The café is very small and usually extremely crowded, but the husband and wife who run it are strong believers. I had asked them to be praying if I brought him into the café because I was hoping to witness to him. Not only did they serve us one amazing breakfast, for which he was extremely grateful, but they didn’t say a word about the adorable puppy sleeping at our feet. Christian team work at its finest! Thankfully, it wasn’t too crowded.
After some small talk and after the man sitting right next to us began talking to someone else, I told him that I like to ask people what I consider to be one of life’s most important questions: “If you died tonight, where do you think you’d go?” His answer was very typical of a lost person: “I guess I’m not sure. I’d like to think a good place.”
Earlier, he told me he has worked for NASA as an engineer for 30 years. He explained how he can’t help but look at things scientifically and logically. That made perfect sense to me. He went on, “When we are a child, we’re told that Santa Claus and the tooth fairy are real, and we believe it. Then we find out those were lies.” Wow. I am so glad I asked!!
I know God desires all men to be saved, and I was so thrilled that He sent me and equipped me to answer these concerns of his. I used your two booklets to spend a few minutes sharing a few scientific and prophetic proofs that show the Bible is undeniably true. Then I explained Romans 1:20 and how the most logical conclusion we can come to is that a loving God designed and created all of this beauty and order we see around us in creation.
Even though I was talking very quietly, so as not to make him uncomfortable that others might be listening, at this point I was excited to realize that the people sitting next to us were listening, too, because he seemed genuinely interested and grateful to hear these things. Then I told him that after my husband and I came to believe the claims of the Bible and repented and put our trust in Jesus as our Savior, we now know that we will be with Jesus after we take our last breath. I also told him that we didn’t tell our children Santa or the Tooth Fairy were real because we personally didn’t want to confuse them and damage the trust they had in us, since we were telling them that Jesus is undeniably who the Bible says He is. I gave him your two booklets as I walked with him and his new puppy out to his car. He was very appreciative (for the gifts and not just the puppy) and sincerely thanked me more than once.
Yesterday, I received a message from a man from Brazil that I had witnessed to at a festival a few days prior. He was reaching out to thank me again for the One Heartbeat Away book I had given him. He said he was reading it and thought it was very good. I get so excited when this happens and usually go grab your book to remind myself of the wonderful truths they are reading.
As I was rereading portions of the book and about scientists who were former atheists that have now put their faith in Christ, I thought of Robert again. In tears, I prayed for him once more, asking God to bring conviction to Him and to grant him repentance to life. As I was praying for Robert, he texted me!! He sent a picture of his dog to let me know how well she is doing. After a few replies, I sent him a picture of One Heartbeat Away and asked if I had sent it with him the day we met. He said, No. I told him I would love to mail him a copy, if he would read it, because I would love his opinion about it since he has a science background. He said he would!! I am so excited! I hurried to the store to buy a little chew toy for his dog to include with your book. Hopefully, he will get it tomorrow. Will you join me in praying for his salvation?
I have sold five puppies. When the puppies are delivered and I have the money in hand, I will replenish my supply of your books to give away as I witness to the people I meet. I love when the Lord teaches me the certainty of His promises. Over the years, He has taught me to trust fully in Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Thank you for your example and these great witnessing tools! What a joy to live each day with purpose, even in the midst of the darkness and evil all around us. I can’t wait to get to heaven and see who is there!
