Inside the Barbed Wire

The world is full of ups and downs right now, but whenever we hear about what God is doing, it’s always a good “up.” I think you will enjoy this letter we received recently from a prison chaplain.

Hi, Mark,

What great newsletter today with letters from inmates! I want to THANK YOU for the generous donations of books and booklets you’ve made to the Montgomery County Jail. Your books are so popular that we classify them BY REQUEST ONLY and keep them on a special shelf in our safe custody! We use discretion and make judgment calls about who gets them (they don’t go to just anyone who may be attracted to pretty colors)! Last week, a respectful inmate came to the door of the chaplain’s office and said he was looking for more books by Mark Cahill. So, I invited him to come in and select some things for himself and his “cellies.” He was awed by the Cahill Shelf; he realized what a privilege he was being given and left with a collection of your works in Spanish and English.

Your books are closely guarded, but your booklets (the ones you bundle together) go out on rolling carts with our Bibles and devotionals. The carts are paraded past inmates behind sheets of Plexiglas and rolled directly into group housing situations. Inmates can see what we have and make selections. Some of our most popular authors are the Lord God Almighty, Tim LaHaye (Left Behind), and Mark Cahill. Mark, I’d say you’re in pretty good company!

Your work is also going out to men and women behind metal doors with microphones in them, those waiting for treatment of addictions and mental conditions, the handicapped, and the homeless. Many are poor in spirit; many are broken-hearted and contrite. Suffering and sorrow abound, and hope is scarce. Truly, the fields are white and ready for harvest, and God’s Word goes forth and does not return to Him void. Delivering God’s Word under these conditions is a humbling experience and one of infinite blessing. Thank you, Mark, for your work as an author, your passion for saving the lost, and your generous support of prison ministries. Because of you, there is a Cahill shelf in MOCO jail, and your work is being taken into even the darkest corners. Thank you for giving the foot soldiers the tools we need.

With gratitude,
Chaplain McNutt

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Souls matter to God, and they should matter to us as well. Many ex-prisoners have told me that when they were incarcerated, God got their full and complete attention. What you may not know, though, is that there are a lot of unbiblical materials that prisoners can read in prison. Just like it is a battle for truth outside the barbed wire, it is also a battle for truth inside the barbed wire.

Thanks for blessing us so we can in turn bless chaplains and prisoners with the materials they need so the lost can be saved and become soul winners for our Lord right where they are.

Souls.

Until the nets are full,

P.S.  We received this neat letter from Lavon, who is excited to witness and wants to take it seriously. He is in for a thrill when he sees how God orchestrates some of these encounters.

Hi, Mark,

I got your audiobook One Thing You Can’t Do In Heaven recently and have listened to it. I wanted to thank you for what you are doing and for writing this book. I am a Christian and have had a growing conviction that I am not sharing the gospel like I should, and your book has been an inspiration and a challenge to me. Since listening to this audiobook, I see people differently than I did before. However, I am afraid I must grow in the area of overcoming the fear of man. I know I should step out and witness to people, but it’s just plain scary. But with God’s help, I will start practicing.

Thanks again, and please continue your work!

Lavon W.

Listening to One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven or One Heartbeat Away through audiobooks is a great way to redeem the time and keep you fired up to reach the lost. Having it ready to play on your device as you’re driving, exercising, or doing other tasks keeps the importance of witnessing front and center in your heart and mind. To help you do just that, we are cutting the suggested donation price for audiobook bundles and audiobook downloads by 25% and 50% off so you can enjoy and be challenged by these books.
