Do you want to know what a faithful soldier of the Lord looks like? Read the following email to see one in action:

Hi, Mark,

Thank you for your books. Yesterday, I told the Lord that he should put one of the doctors I work with on an airplane with Mark Cahill for an extended conversation because (you) would do a much better job than I would at witnessing to him because this one atheist doctor likes to debate people. I thought. “Mr. Cahill would do a good job in a logical debate with a reasonable but lost doctor.”

Anyway, God decided to dump that debate in MY lap tonight when I decided to nervously say that I disagreed with a statement he made. After he said that “all people are basically good” (he was discussing the election and knew we were on the same side), he asked me if I agreed with him. I said that I agreed with all of his statements except that one. That is: I believe the statement in the Bible that says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” That led to a 45-minute conversation about evolutionary theory versus creationism and God versus atheism in the middle of the emergency department with a bunch of coworkers listening in. Yikes! If you had told me this morning that this is what I would have been doing today, I might have called in sick to work! I don’t have that kind of bravery. But I love to read about creationism and science. One of my Hindu coworkers was very interested to know what I believed and wants to talk more. She walked out with me as I was leaving. I asked her if the Hindu religion has any gods who gave up their lives so that others could get eternal life. She couldn’t think of any but said she’s not very religious. I told her that Jesus didn’t limit salvation to those of the Christian religion; it’s a free gift for anyone who believes. And He seeks and will save anyone who is lost. She was very excited to talk to me. My doctor friend said, “I’ll probably need to drink a beer to have more discussions with you.”

It was just a seed, but a surprising one for me.

I know that one of your books says something about not being scared of the nervous energy you get from witnessing and not to try to plan out everything you say, but I had a double dose and then some. I was really glad I had read that part because I might have tried to cut these conversations short otherwise. I wanted to say, “Thank you.” I have never witnessed with a bunch of people listening in, and I certainly wasn’t planning to do it at midnight tonight!

Thanks for all of your witnessing books and materials. I like reading them. They help me grow, and I don’t think I would have said anything if I hadn’t read that bit in your book last week.

I still hope he gets to sit beside you on a plane someday.

Working on those empty sheaves you talk about.

Rebekah

Colossians 4:7

All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:

Remember, you always want to be known as being faithful to the Lord. Thanks, Rebekah, for being a faithful soldier to the Lord and someone He can count on!

Until the Nets are Full,

Mark
