I like Edsel. He is a bold man of God. He witnesses all the time and is finishing the race well.
How did I meet Edsel? I was speaking in Kansas maybe 20 years ago, and he was there. He came up to say hello, and we hit it off immediately. I love men of God who make a bold stand for Jesus.
He just sent me this email, and I thought it would encourage you:
I was going to tell you about this but decided not to. Then I just read your newsletter, “WIN, WIN, WIN,” and you talked about divine appointments, so here’s a recent one I didn’t know was going to happen. For some reason, when I went out, I took along a One Second After You… booklet and put a Got Questions card in the back.
I’ve told you I have this polymyalgia. I was lying around the house in the afternoon, hurting, and said to myself, “I need to go take the blade off my tractor and put on the rotary mower and rotor around my soybean field on the west side of the creek,” which is about 1 1/2 miles away. So, I did and rotared for about 1 1/2 hours.
I pulled up to the corner of the field and stopped to clean off my deck. A little black car slowed down and had his window open and was trying to talk. I yelled over, but I couldn’t hear him, so he pulled in the driveway. I went over to him, and he said, “I thought you were someone else.” I had never seen him before; it turned out he lived just west of there along the road.
So I said, “You’re retired?” He said, “AT&T/Southwestern Bell cable splicer.” I said, “I did some of that. I was a communication tech for the railroad, so we have a little something in common.“ I asked him how old he was, and he said, ”Seventy-seven.” He knew the farmer who farms next to me. I said, “I was seventy-six,” and added something like, “Those numbers are against us.” He agreed. Perfect setup.
I asked him, “If you died tonight, where would you go?” He said he was a Catholic. I said, “Sir, you are greatly deceived. Did they tell you that if you are with them from the cradle to the grave, you are okay and will go to Heaven?” I said, “It doesn’t say in the Bible there are any churches that, because you go to them, you’re going to Heaven.” Then I quoted 1Timothy 2:5 and Ephesians 2:8-9. I said, “Do you know those verses?” He said, “No.” I said, “I want to give you something to read. It’s a little booklet called, One Second After You… with a Got Questions card in it.”
He took them, and I encouraged him to read them. I think he will. I then told him, “This could be a DIVINE APPOINTMENT,” as no one else had told him, and we were out there at 6:30 in the evening and didn’t know we were going to see each other. I told him to think real hard about that. He went on, and I went home.
I had a similar experience with a young FedEx driver who had a package for me. I met him about a half mile east of there. I knew why I put the book in the tractor; it is extremely important to be equipped so we can leave them with something tangible.

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Please pray for Edsel to finish the race well, and you finish well, too! If Edsel can be ready to witness by keeping booklets in his tractor, we can keep them in our cars and be ready to witness as well!
