Recently, I had a birthday. One of my favorite ways to celebrate is what I like to call a reverse birthday. I don’t expect people to bless me on that day because I want to bless other people. I have the mindset the whole day that it is a blessing time for others and not for me.
I decided to hit up some Laundromats so I could bless some people. They are great places to witness. One guy was standing by his car, and we started talking. He moved to the other side of his car and pulled out a One Heartbeat Away book that I had given him a year earlier somewhere else! So, we were able to continue the conversation we had started last year.
I also met another guy, Amos, later in the day. Nice man. We had a good conversation. He had just spent 61 days in the hospital with sepsis and was very recently released. Wow. He had a nice, strong faith in Jesus and is ready to go when his last breath comes.
But probably the most interesting encounter of the day was the first person I met. As I drove out of my neighborhood and saw the gas station that is down the street a bit, I noticed a guy putting gas in his car with a gas can. So I pulled over and started chatting with him. I gave him money to buy gas and gave him some materials to read.
The interesting part of this story was he was literally 20 feet away from the gas pump! He was right there. I knew he must have been coasting down the street thinking he probably could make it to the pump. But to get into this particular gas station, you have to go up an incline, and he wasn’t able to make it. I am guessing no one helped to push him up to the pump, so he bought the canister to put gas in his car.
He “almost” made it to the gas pump. There are a lot of “almosts” in life. You almost got first place. You almost got an A on that test. You almost got that job. But there is a much bigger “almost” than these.
Acts 26:28
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
You are still breathing. You still have life in your body. Go reach some “almost” people out there while we still have time.
Until the nets are full,
P.S. Tracts are probably the best way to leave someone with the gospel when you don’t have much time with them. You can hand tracts to the all kinds of people during your day—the people you walk by as you head into a store, those in the checkout line with you, people in parking areas, or concert goers waiting in line at venues. Tracts are invaluable in getting the salvation message out to lots of people fast. Roger agrees and wrote in to say that tracts are a big part of his witnessing arsenal. He wants to reach people for Christ!
People are coming out of doors these days to enjoy the spring weather and some outdoor activities. But it’s also a great time to refresh their souls with truth! To help you to do just that, we have lowered the suggested donation of our tracts by $10. That means you can pick up 600 tracts for just $38!
