I had a crazy encounter last night. I was sitting in a pizza place when a couple of guys walked in. They asked if I worked there. Not exactly sure that I looked like one of the wait staff, but I was a great busboy back in the day!
We started talking, and then I asked them if they were hungry. So I told them I was going to get them some food, since Jesus said it was more blessed to give than receive.
When Biringa said, “This has to be from God,” then we really started talking. He was from South Sudan, and Joseph was an American citizen, but his parents were from Jamaica. Biringa had just recently started memorizing Scripture. That is always a great thing!
He was working on memorizing Acts 4:12. I am glad I knew the verse, because he didn’t!
Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Biringa has been going to church his whole life. His parents were from the Christian part of Sudan. I know the church where he attends and have spoken there before. He literally could not explain sin or whether we needed forgiveness. He thought that good-hearted people would be okay on the other side and wasn’t sure if there was a Heaven or Hell. He had no clue why Jesus came to earth, did not know that the blood of Christ cleanses sin, etc. I was stunned. What is that church or his family teaching him?
He literally didn’t know any of the basic teachings of Scripture. How can someone be 21 years old, grow up in church, have Christian parents, and not even know basic doctrines or the simplicity of the gospel?
2 Corinthians 11:3,4
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
What was the good news in all of this? They were very open to hearing truth! They loved the conversation we had, talking about all of the topics listed above. They were hungry for truth. They both took books and some booklets. Please pray for Biringa and Joseph.
Just a simple gesture and a couple of words, “You hungry?” led to a totally crazy divine appointment. Even they knew it was a divine encounter in their lives.
You look hungry. Go get some food and ask someone else, “You hungry?” and see what the Lord might open up right before your eyes!
Until the nets are full,
