I had an interesting conversation with a man on the streets the other night. As we were talking, he said he believed that Jesus walked on earth 2,000 years ago, but he wasn’t sure if He died on a cross or rose from the dead three days later.
Interestingly, I had almost the same conversation with a Muslim man from Ghana at a train station later that evening! He believed that Jesus was a prophet but said He didn’t die on the cross or rise from the dead.
Never, ever forget the importance of the Resurrection. It is the event that sets Jesus and Christianity far and above every other religious system out there.
1 Corinthians 15:4-6
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
1 Corinthians 15:13,14
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
I often say to people, “If Jesus did not rise from the dead, this is just like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck―a total and complete fairy tale. Our faith is in vain.” But guess what? The tomb is very, very empty!!
As I was finishing up with the first guy, I noticed he had some teardrops underneath one of his eyes. In the gang world, a member will tattoo a teardrop there for someone who has passed away. So I asked him, “Who died?” He said, “No one.” That answer surprised me, so I asked, “Why do you have those teardrops underneath your eye?” He said, “One is for the Democrat Party, one is for the Republican Party, and one is for organized religion!” I laughed so hard! What an odd reason to put teardrops on one’s face! There are a lot of reasons people have given me for why they got a tattoo, but I had never heard that one before.
But I used it to my advantage. I continued, “Remember the famous adage: It is not what you know, but who you know? And that ‘Who’ is Jesus! You have to know the right ‘Who’ to get to the right place you want to go, and He is the only ‘Who’ that can take you to the Promised Land.”
I gave him some literature, and as we parted ways, I asked, “What is your name?” He said, “Christopher.” He, of course, had no clue what his name meant, but I let him know it meant “bearer of Christ” and that He needed to get saved and be a light bearer of Christ everywhere he goes.
Be bold and open your mouths, folks. There are some interesting people out there who need to hear eternal truth from your lips.
Until the nets are full,
P.S. Well, I got hungry again. Just felt led to go to a Waffle House that I passed by the other day. While I was there, I bought the meals for the table next to me. A mother and her high school son were eating together. I let them know I was a Christian, and Jesus said it was more blessed to give than receive. We had a great give-and-take. They both liked to read, so I gave them a few books. The teenager asked, “Were you at the Bill Burr show a couple of weeks ago?” That was one of the events we listed in our FleshFest newsletter (https://dev.markcahill.org/fleshfest/). He said I had given him a card there, and he had read it. I pulled some tracts out of my pocket, and he pointed right to the Infinity tract as the one I had given him! For the umpteenth time, tracts work! Keep flooding all the places you go with them all the days of your life!
So that others can read a quick gospel message on a tract, we have lowered our suggested donation for tracts by 25% to make it easier for you to hand them out to them! Single packs are now $6 and bundles of tracts are now $30. To pick up your tracts for the holiday season, just click on the links below!
