Eternity is rushing towards us.
You and everyone else must be ready.

Should We Fear Dying?

Jan 30, 2024

It’s always surprising when someone voices an opinion that is diametrically opposed to the Bible. I ran across one of those opinions when I read an article about Sam Neill. It really made me think.

Sam is gravely mistaken. God will not judge our good deeds against our bad deeds. Sam is going to have plenty of regrets. His greatest regret will be that he didn’t get born again and saved. That is why Christians should never fear death. We should welcome the day we pass from this life to the next because we will FINALLY get to be with Jesus!!

Pray for Sam. And walk out your door today and share the gospel with someone who should also fear taking their last breath without Jesus, so they don’t fall into the hands of God unprepared.

Sam Neill, who played Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park with a storied career spanning several decades, including a turn in the Academy Award-winning The Piano (1993) and the horror-cult hit Possession (1981), announced he has no fear of death as he battles Stage-3 blood cancer.

“But I’ve also got to be realistic in that one doctor said to me, ‘This stuff will stop working one day, too.’ So I’m prepared for that. I’m ready for it. And, I think I’ve done some good things…not all of them have been good. We all have regrets. But I think I can live by myself, and I can die by myself OK.”

Is Sam correct? He basically says in the article that he is more fearful of retirement than he is of death. Is that the correct way to think?

Psalm 55:4,5

My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.

Hebrews 10:31

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Until the nets are full,

P.S. We hear from all kinds of Christians, like Juanita, who say their lives were changed from reading One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven. Please say a prayer for Juanita and her group of ladies!

“Wanting to use this book with a group of ladies living in my neighborhood in rural Missouri who are all over 50. Wanting to set a spark under them that I received years ago by reading this book that my sister gave me as a gift. It totally changed and challenged me to share Jesus more each day!”  —Juanita

If you need some winning strategies for having conversations with the lost, or if you need to spur on your “want to” in helping the lost, One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven might be just the help you need! We currently have single copies of One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven reduced by 33% off the normally suggested donation amount. Check it out and pick some up to have on hand to give to those who need them.

P.P.S. We received this interesting email not too long ago. It’s great to hear from people who are putting their faith into action. They care about where the lost will spend their eternities and are doing something about it.

Dear, Mark,

I purchased your book, One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven around the year 2006. It has been such an inspiration to me. I read it every year and, much like the Bible, every time I read it, it seems to speak to me in a new and powerful way.

I was a thoroughbred jockey for 15 years before landing the role as Ron Turcotte in Walt Disney’s movie, Secretariat. I now serve as the chaplain at a racetrack in Shelbyville, IN. We currently meet for our services in a small, singlewide trailer but are supposed to be building a chapel later this year. I would love to have you come out to speak, once we move into the new building.

Once again, thank you for your zealous love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It’s contagious. Every time I read your book, it pushes me to be a better witness to those around me.

God Bless,
Otto Thorwarth
