Missing the Bus

On my way to church, many times I will stop by this one gas station to hand out some tracts. There are a lot of day laborers there, so I will give them a Spanish tract and a blessing. I get my Spanish tracts from https://chick.com/ and https://mwtb.org/. Every now and then, there are some English-speaking guys there, too.

Today, a guy named “James” was there. I have seen him before. I asked him, “Are you born again?” He said, “I am not going to lie to you; no, I am not.” He told me he was in his 40s. He also told me that his brother was found dead in a freezer across the street, as he pointed over at it. His 17-year-old nephew stepped out of his car recently, and someone shot and killed him with a shotgun. Let’s just say James and I had an interesting talk.

I gave James some tracts and a One Second After You… booklet.

I told him that I wanted him to read the booklet today and not to put his head on his pillow tonight unless he knew he was born again and saved by the blood of Jesus. I can’t wait to see him again, either here or, hopefully, on the other side.

Interestingly, there were some Hispanic street preachers on the other side of the road! They are out there almost every Sunday morning. I have talked with them before and given them some of my books in Spanish. They really do care about souls. If they see you taking Jesus to the streets like we are supposed to do, then they know you care about lost souls as well.

If I have enough time before church, I will stop at another gas station on the way there and hand out some tracts and maybe buy fuel for a couple of people.

Well, today, I saw a guy over by the bus stop, sitting in the shade on this hot and humid day. We started chatting, and I ended up asking him what time his bus was coming. This is a good strategy because if someone is waiting on someone or something else, you can find out how much time you have to talk with them. Simple.

This guy looked at his phone and said his bus was 15 minutes away. About four minutes later, this bus went zooming by. I said, “That isn’t your bus, is it?” He was not happy! Never, ever trust your phone!! Where he was sitting in the shade, the bus driver could not see that he was waiting for that bus.

I caused part of this problem, so I needed to rectify the situation. I pulled out a $10 bill and gave it to Antonio. I explained that Jesus said it was more blessed to give than receive and that I was going to pay for his bus ride. He was very grateful. We had a great conversation because we had longer to talk!! Antonio was in his late 20s, was “spiritual,” and loved to read. He took a book and both booklets.

I wondered if he might have to be somewhere at a certain time, so I pulled out a few more tens and gave them to him. I said, “If you need to get an Uber, this will help pay for it.” He really could not believe that a total stranger was just going to bless him like that. But that is what a total Christian stranger should be doing.

Matthew 5:13-16

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Please pray for James and Antonio. Remember to plant seeds every day for the Lord, but especially on the Lord’s Day!

Until the nets are full,

P.S. Thanks for all of the nice comments you folks have sent in through the years. They are very encouraging!

Since you folks like reading the books and giving them away, let’s put the Non-Fiction bundle at 20% off the suggested donation this week. That way, you can get some of the books you don’t have or gift them to another believer who needs to get fired up to share their faith.

Thanks for not only reaching the lost but for encouraging and challenging other believers to do the same!
