There are some great witnessing opportunities waiting for you on the other end of the phone line, and maybe with someone on the other side of the world!
Sumeet was a customer service agent in India on the line with Brenda. Ever had an agent ask you, “Is there anything else I can help you with?” They think they are ending the call, but we are just getting started. She answered, “Yes, there is. I’m wondering if you know how to get to heaven.”
He politely answered, “I’m an atheist. I think that if I’m good, it will all work out in the end. And I respect all religions. They basically help people to be good.”
She said, “Yes, most religions are going to teach you to be good, but they are all different in terms of how sin is removed. That’s the key question. Being good is good, but it has no value for removing sin.”
To make her point, she used a courtroom example to show how judges don’t judge people for their good behavior; they judge them on what they’ve done wrong. God is no different. Then she explained the gospel.
She added, “Various religions tend to base their beliefs on their religious writings, but only the Bible can be proven true.” So she went through how the probability of fulfilled prophecies proves that what we know about God, Jesus, and the Bible are the most certain facts known to man.
Sumeet said he loves to listen to these kinds of things, but he still held to his atheism. He had the total freedom to stay with his atheism, but she just gave him information so he could make an informed choice. But she warned him, “Remember, your choice for or against truth will be confirmed forever the moment you take your last breath.” That’s when he gasped.
He explained how he has a new wife and a baby on the way and how life is turning around for him, but recently, he had a close call with death. He was running a late-night errand on his motorcycle and was at a stoplight when a huge tree came crashing to the ground in front of him, dragging three electrical lines down with it. He found himself buried in a thicket of branches and power lines. Stunned and not knowing if he would be electrocuted, he took the chance to wrestle himself free. Thankfully, the power lines had no power. But the trunk of the tree fell within 6 feet of him.
He also shared how he turned to atheism to deal with the backlash he received from his Hindu family after returning from a Christian boarding school. His family decided he was just too westernized and no longer Hindu. But the things he was hearing on this call reminded him of the things he had learned at that boarding school as a child.
Suddenly, he was interested in checking out One Heartbeat Away and wrote to the ministry saying how much he appreciated the call from Brenda.
Talking to a stranger on the other side of the world is easier than you think. You might even discuss things they don’t want to share with their friends or coworkers. And that problem you were calling customer service about? It might be exactly what God allowed in order for you to connect with someone who needs the gospel. You just don’t know how God has prepared their hearts ahead of time to hear what might save their soul for eternity!
