I just heard that dreaded knock at the door. I was right in the middle of something, but, of course, I knew it could be one of those God opportunities.
I looked out the window, and there were two ladies standing there holding materials in their hands. Uh oh. I was about 99 percent sure what it was going to be. And, of course, I was correct: Jehovah’s Witnesses!
A good friend of mine, Dr. Ron Carlson, loved Jesus and loved to share his faith. He always reminded me that when a JW or Mormon knocks on the door, “Answer the door!” We don’t have to worry about what they say; we only have to worry about what we are going to say. They need the truth, and it is our job to give it to them.
He also said one day, “If you see a blind person trip and fall, what would you do? Easy. Help them get up.” He said, “It is the same thing; these folks are blind, and they need to be helped up.” I have never forgotten his wise words.
So, I opened the door, and once they were done with their spiel, I asked them if they would pull up 1 Timothy 3:16 in both the KJV and in the New World Translation. Always remember that JWs believe in the KJV Bible as well as their New World Translation. They usually have them in their satchel bag, but this time, they had iPads with them instead.
Here is the comparison:
1 Timothy 3:16 (King James Version):
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
1 Timothy 3:16 (New World Translation):
Indeed, the sacred secret of this godly devotion is admittedly great: ‘He was made manifest in flesh, was declared righteous in spirit, appeared to angels, was preached about among nations, was believed upon in the world, was received up in glory.’
Do you notice something astronomically different between them? Yes, it is about who was manifest in the flesh. Is it “God” or is it “He”? This is a very big issue. Why? It goes right to the heart of their doctrine. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe that Jesus is God; they believe He is a created being. The Bible is clear that Jesus is God, and this verse in 1 Timothy is one of the clearest verses in all of Scripture saying that Jesus is God.
I let those ladies know that the Greek word in the verse for “He” is “Theos.” And there is only one way to translate that word, and it is “God.” I also told them that both of these translations cannot both be correct at the same time; someone is wrong here.
Then I shared with them about Matthew 16:15, which says, “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?”
I stated to them, “Jesus is not asking you who your momma says He is or who your grandmamma says He is, but He is asking you who you say He is.” That really resonated with one of the ladies.
I also let them know, “When you finally meet Jesus, you don’t want to stand in front of Him having believed in the wrong Jesus the whole time.” That totally resonated with the same lady. She just started staring off and thinking about it.
I asked for them to give me some of their literature because if they give it to me, then they can’t give it to someone else!
One lady liked to read, so I gave her The Second Greatest Lie booklet and showed her the pages about the Jehovah’s Witnesses. She liked to read fiction, so I gave her the Reunion book as well. This was a good moment because they are trained not to take literature from folks, but yet, this lady took some from me.
As I stood on my porch, I turned toward my car. When I turned back around, the other lady had taken the books from her and was handing them back to me! Remember, there is always a dominant one when two JWs come to the door. I tend to focus on the less dominant one. They are usually the newer “convert” who is learning the ropes. They are typically the more open one.
So, I took the books from her and handed them back to the other lady! I don’t give up easily!
She handed Reunion back to me but said she would take the booklet. Seed planted.
Then I said, “Let’s pray.” I just bowed my head and went for it. They typically don’t like that, since they don’t believe in a Trinitarian God. I have had some folks who just walked away when I began to pray! The one lady was very thankful.
Please pray for their souls. They have the wrong Jesus.
And don’t forget: Answer the door!
Until the nets are full,
P.S. We live in troubled times. Figuring out XX and XY is kind of simple. Watch this lady in the video below explain how she’s been on both sides of this issue and how she was impacted.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
This is wicked and evil. Do not let people lie to your children.
