“One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven by Mark Cahill has to be the best Christian book that I have read so far. The book’s main focus is spreading the gospel and the different ways you can do that so that it captures people’s attention. This book would make any believer and non believer take their eternity more seriously, as well as think about where they and others are spiritually. But it will also make you drop whatever you’re doing so that you can share the good news. Along with my bible, I would carry this book everywhere that I go as I embark on a new journey of becoming an evangelist.”
“So to discuss Mark’s theme and name of his book, One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven is share your faith with a non-believer. In his first chapter Mark says, “Do you realize that when you take your last breath, you will never again be able to talk with a lost person?” That should challenge each and every one of us to get out of our comfort zones and to witness to the lost. Ephesians 5:16 encourages us to redeem the time because the days are evil. There are only two times for us to share the Gospel, and that is in season and out of season. “The best places for a believer’s light to shine is in the darkest places. Mark will go anywhere to tell others about God’s Word. He has talked to prostitutes in Las Vegas and to ex-gang members in prison. Don’t stray away from scary places because though they seem dark, that’s where your light will shine brightest (John 8:12).”
“Many times Christians have excuses for why they are not telling others about Christ. One excuse is the fear of being rejected. Galatians 1:10 says, “For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” It’s better to witness to a lost soul and be rejected, than for someone not to hear about God at all.”
“Another common excuse is that people don’t know how to witness. Mark has many tips when it comes to striking up a conversation. A lot of times to get people talking, you can ask them what they think will be on the other side when we die. Another good tip is to use the Ten Commandments method. Ask someone if they believe they are a good person, many times their answer will be yes. Go through the Ten Commandments and say something like, “Have you ever lied, lusted after someone, hated another person, or stolen something? Then you’re telling me that you’re a liar, adulterer, murderer, and thief. You must be pretty bad, but God has died on the cross for us to save us from our sins.”
“There are so many things about this book that I don’t even have the time or space to mention, but these few things stuck out to me. Mark has taught me how to approach people who have the “right answers,” but they don’t have salvation, and how to approach those who are completely lost. I have learned not to worry about whether or not I will lose a friend, or if I will be rejected. If a seed is planted, it’s up to God to do something with it. I have also been taught not to have a message like, “Jesus loves you,” but to have one of sin, righteousness, Law, judgement, and Hell. Though I have been taught many things, I have also been inspired to hand out gospel tracts to people and put them in places such as beer cases in a store, or on cars in the parking lot.”
