My mom got a hold of me the other day and wanted me to come over to order some food for her and pops. So I went. But while I was there, I was contemplating sending her to bed without her supper, since that happened to me way tooooo many times as a young man! Yes, her parenting skills left a lot to be desired, but at 83, it probably isn’t worth having one of those long talks with her about it, especially at this stage of her life. By the way, she also reads these newsletters, so I probably won’t be getting a phone call from her any time soon! Good thing Mother’s Day is around the corner. She’ll probably talk to me by then!
The delivery person pulled into the driveway shortly thereafter. Now, I had already prayed for this person. I always pray that God will send the right person to bring the food to the door so we can have a nice chat. I began to talk with her to find out her beliefs. Wow! She was into metaphysical teachings and other New Age philosophies. She believed heaven exists but not hell. She also believed that Jesus was just a man and not God, etc. I love conversations like these. You get the chance to hear people’s beliefs, poke some holes in them, and then fill those holes with truth.
I asked her if she liked to read, but I already knew the answer because you can’t get into those kind of belief systems without reading about them from somewhere. So I gave her a book and a booklet.
My mom wanted to leave her a nice tip, so I did. I find it kind of funny that I couldn’t get $10 out of my mom’s purse during my teen years, but now she acts like Bill Gates with all of these delivery drivers!! The lady’s eyes got big. She was so thankful and said so. I told her, Jesus said it is more blessed to give than receive. So that is why we like to bless people.
She let me know that she had two young boys ages 7 and 8. One of them had a birthday the next day. You could kind of tell she was working this extra job to make ends meet. So I reached into my pocket and counted off ten $10 bills for her. I told her again, Jesus said it is more blessed to give than receive. Do something nice for your son’s birthday tomorrow.
She stood there and just began to weep. Then she started to cry and cry and cry. She got into her car to drive away, and I still don’t know how she managed it because she was literally sobbing so hard. She was very grateful and very thankful for the blessing.
She will never forget the encounter because some Christians wanted to give her eternal truth and a blessing from God.
Remember during these unprecedented times, Christians are not supposed to be hoarders but givers. We should be givers, no matter what the times of the day are.
Acts 20:35
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
So, is there someone you know who needs a blessing? Go for it. Is there someone you don’t know yet who needs a blessing? Go for it, too.
Until the nets are full,
