We Are Not a Serious People

Sep 29, 2025

I saw this clip the other day, and it got me thinking. I didn’t know what a Breitling watch even was, but I guess they are expensive. If you owned one, would you brag about it? How about if you owned 37 of them, would you brag about it?

A man named Mylon LeFevre wanted to be healed from a sickness, so what did he do? He gave the guy who owned 36 Breitling watches a 37th one to add to his collection? Of course, that watch was sitting inside of a Bentley. So Mylon gave a car worth well over $200,000 to a man who has publicly stated he is a billionaire!

The word “poor” shows up 199 times in the Bible.

Matthew 19:21

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Matthew 26:11

For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

Have you ever thought about going out and doing something for the poor? Have you ever thought about selling your $200,000 car and investing in some poor people?

A friend of mine told me that his old church in California raised $300,000 to buy their pastor a Rolls Royce. I almost came out of my shoes when he told me that! I replied by saying that my friends know me well enough that they would never do something like that. If they raised $300K, they should buy me a $50,000 car (one that I could actually fit in), and they should have a blast giving the rest away!

Now, I am all about blessing your pastor. Go for it. They need encouragement these days. But c’mon, folks. We are not a serious people.

And, yes, Mylon ended up dying. Wouldn’t it have been better for him to sell his car and use that money to help poor folks and for soul-winning before he exited out of here and before he met Jesus face to face rather than give it to a billionaire?

The visible church, as a whole, is not serious about following Jesus in these last days. Be a person who is serious about the Lord’s business before you die. Judgment Day is very, very serious.

Until the nets are full,

P.S.  This is a great idea! Give it a shot and see how God uses it.

I wanted to pass along this picture and story behind it as I thought it was encouraging. My wife was in a local thrift store and saw this box of books on the counter. She asked the clerk about it and he said there was a lady who stopped by and asked if she could leave them on the counter for anyone who would like one to take free of charge and she told them if they run out she would bring more in.
