Giving Depression the Boot

Apr 21, 2024

I received this nice note from Wesley on a book order the other day::

We are already out of tracts. Amen! There is absolute joy in serving Jesus. The cure for depression is biblical evangelism. That God would save us and use us to proclaim his word to the world—I’m still amazed, and I’ll be forever grateful.

Thank you, Brother Mark, for all that you do for our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. You are a blessing and an encouragement.

Wesley

He is very, very correct. Whenever you are in a funk, go and talk to a lost person about Jesus. That is so true for me. If I am having one of those days (and you know what I am talking about when you have one of those days!), the best thing that I can ever do is get out of my house and go and talk with a lost person.

Why? It puts life in perspective. Yes, I might be dealing with some things, but I am not going to Hell when I die. I am finally going to be with Jesus! When talking with a lost soul, you are not focused on the things in your own life; you are focused on the other person and their life.

Psalm 34:17,18

The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

2 Corinthians 7:6

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Since God cares about each one of us, go and talk with a lost person today and tell them about Jesus. Show them that you care about them as well.

Until the nets are full,

P.S.  We received this great piece of feedback from a prison chaplain who helped a very depressed inmate:

One Second After You DieMark,

Could you please send me some of your One Second After You… booklets? I visited with an inmate today who told me that last May, he was going to commit suicide but didn’t because I had given him one of these booklets that morning! He surrendered his life to Christ that night after reading the booklet. He now believes it was the first time he became a Christian. He thought he was a Christian before, but after that night, his life changed from darkness to light!
